If The Devil Wore Prada

September 12th, 2010

This past weekend, some of the AD60 team headed north to do a little camping, but more on that later this week.  Right now, we wanted to take this opportunity to share a number of our favorite things across the web.

Create Your Own Groupon-Like Offer On Facebook

Create Your Own Groupon-Like Offer On Facebook

July 21st, 2010

Today Mashable reported that promotional tool company Wildfire has released a new app that lets brands create Group Deals within their Facebook pages. If you are not familiar with Groupon.com or LivingSocial.com, these social coupon sites have exploded in the last year by offering users nice discounts at local businesses. For a number of large brands, this platform is appealing, but they have also taken the time to develop a strong following on social networks such as Facebook, collecting hundreds of thousands of fans.

The New Digg.com Is Upon Us, Should You Care

The New Digg.com Is Upon Us, Should You Care

July 19th, 2010

Over the weekend we received a notification that the new, fourth version of Digg.com was available in its alpha stage to try out. Before we start to give our feedback, we should add a caveat by letting our readers know that we are not heavy Digg users. The insane influence its power users had, along with the lack of strong social connections made it almost pointless for small brands or those too busy to see any value. If you did have a story take off, the coverage would be huge but the actual interaction (time on site, additional page views) was usually very low. With the launch of the new Digg, most of these concerns have been addressed, with only one question really remaining: Is it worth the time to add another social platform, or should you just stick with Twitter and Facebook?

Stickybits Lets You Tag Your World

Stickybits Lets You Tag Your World

June 2nd, 2010

Will this be the newest media opportunity, ready to to push rich mobile marketing to the next level or a crazy game that will be loaded with content only suitable for chat-roulette.  Stickybits, is two things; (1) a mobile app that you can download to your iPhone or Android phone, (2) a special barcode, that is not a QR code. Unlike a QR code that lets you download and consume data, Stickybits gives you the option to add content, such as video, images or text to the item which the barcode is attached to.  Very cool, yes, but there is more...once uploaded, the content is then projected to the leaver's social networking profile and anyone who has interacted with the barcode.

NASA Shops At Home Depot?

NASA Shops At Home Depot?

May 19th, 2010

Most of you probably did not know NASA was planning to send an unmanned spacecraft to our solar systems largest planet Jupiter.  Don't feel bad, until today, most of the AD60 team had no idea, this was happening.  Our creative director and fellow space nerd, sent the whole team and email with an image (below) and the following line - "NASA Shops At Home Depot".  Knowing that we would have no idea what he was talking about, he took the effort to crop the image, blow it up and place a nice read circle around the Werner Ladder.

Rumors of the New Apple iPhone 4G, Now With Images

Rumors of the New Apple iPhone 4G, Now With Images

April 19th, 2010

It seems Apple can't do anything these days without inciting endless rumor, hype and innuendo, and the upcoming release of its iPhone 4G is no exception. Fresh off the early-April release of the iPad tablet, rumors are swirling about the next version of the iPhone. Tech blog Gizmodo is at the forefront of the speculation, breaking news on a potential release date, new features and upgraded social networking capabilities. Gizmodo's latest bombshell came Monday, when it released a video, photos and a detailed description of a next-generation iPhone reportedly found in a Redwood City, Calif. bar. If the iPhone Gizmodo got its hands on is the real deal, Apple enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to this summer. The phone reportedly features a video chat camera, an improved still camera (with flash), a more crisp display, a second microphone and some aesthetic changes, among others. Assuming Gizmodo unveiled Apple's closely guarded secrets, the specs and features of the next-generation iPhone will probably stay under lock and key until its release date in June or July. But we doubt Apple will be able to — or want to — stifle the hype surrounding its newest creation. Check out videos, photos and details on the next-gen iPhone at Gizmodo.

GM’s Heads Up Windshield Display: Dangerous or Lucrative?

GM’s Heads Up Windshield Display: Dangerous or Lucrative?

March 22nd, 2010

Ever since we saw Blade Runner, we’ve been waiting for a futuristic car that flies, self-navigates, or at least has a neat heads up display. While we might have to wait a little longer for the first two, GM has announced that it is teaming up with university researchers to bring us an augmented reality windshield that provides important roadway information right on the glass. The first question that you might be asking is, won't that be distracting? Maybe, but not any more distracting than constantly looking at a map or a GPS, which GM hopes its new system will replace. In addition, the display can show important information such as upcoming road conditions, obstacles, as well as to help point out signs and lanes in fog or other poor driving conditions.
