Foursquare and SPIN Magazine Team Up to Bring Badges to SXSW 2010

Today is the inaugural opening of this years South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas and to kick off the even SPIN magazine has teamed up with Foursquare to offer a number of exclusive ticket giveaways to those prepared to fulfill a number of tasks to earn their badges.
How it works
Like with Foursquare’s own badge system, in order to be rewarded with points toward your SPIN badges you have to check-in using your phone at the designated locations. With over 2,300 bands playing from March 17th -21st SPIN’s badge system rewards those who will boldly go beyond the casual spectators experience in order to win rewards and see some great music.
The Benefits of this Collaboration
This kind of collaboration demonstrates the value mobile social media technology can have for traditional media companies like SPIN. Through this collaboration SPIN will not only promote its SXSW events, but by offering a online venue where fans can communicate about their participation in these events they have created a platform where their readers can becoming their promoters, drawing new readers to their print and online content.
To those SPIN and foursquare fans who decide to participate in earning SPIN’s four badges they will be eligible for one of ten pairs of tickets remaining to SPIN’s exclusive showcase at Stubb’s featuring a long list of SPIN’s must not miss bands of the year.

Fans can win a Trailbalzer badge for those brave enough to brake trail by checking in at three shows out side of downtown Austin.
Animal Collector:
With a menagerie of animal band names that would make Dr. Doolittle’s head spin, it should be no problem for SPIN fan to gather this badge by checking-in at three shows with an animal in their name
Bands on the Run:
Run, bike, hike, Segway…. They’re all options for those fans chasing after this badge presented to those light enough on their toes to see seven shows in one day.

Lastly, for the true spin fan this badge will be rewarded to those who make it tow three shows recommended by the editors of SPIN or SPIN.com
