Find of the Day: Hello Kitty The Show
February 28th, 2010
Very rarely am I blown away by something I read on one of the many blogs we frequent, but the other day when I was going through my daily sweep of the blogosphere, the above title and below image forced me to do a double take. A Hello Kitty Broadway show, is this real? Has this famed iconic character finally reached the pinnacle of success? The funniest part of the whole production is it took an Italian school to partner with Hello Kitty creator Sanrio to bring this Japanese hero to the big stage.
On a stage fitting for Ms. Kitty, the show tells the story of three girls who are, despite being passionate, stuck in a routine life. It isn’t until the girls find themselves in a special world placed between fantasy and reality, much like the Wizard of Oz, that they are put to the test. Their perseverance and determination eventually leads them to complete self-expression. The sets and costumes seem to have been built of what Hello Kitty does best – brand her self everywhere, though Hello Kitty actually only appears periodically throughout the performance.
The show just completed the first part of its tour in Teatro Nuovo in Milan today, the 28th of February, but visit the show’s site to see how you can get a seat at the next location – http://www.hellokittytheshow.com/ENG/index.html
